UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DAVID A. CLARKE SCHOOL OF LAW

National Lawyers Guild Chapter had a busy summer. Ethan Wolf interned with the Physicians Committee for Responsibile Medicine to end live animal testing in medical schools. Scott Haapala worked to develop a series of electronic dance music events to increased voter participation. Joseph Kelly interned with the People’s Law Resource Center. As well, Joseph Kelly and Miles Swanson organized teams of NLG Legal Observers for the RNC Demonstrations in NYC. Both were falsely arrested during the demonstrations and face charges of disorderly conduct.

The UDC-DCSL NLG Chapter has recently helped form a NLG Student Committee for D.C. and has been planning a citywide law student disorientation event in conjunction with several other law schools in the area. The event will take place on September 18th at George Washington Law School and will feature a series of speakers on topics such as How to Survive Law School, How to Find a Public Interest Internship and other Vollunter Opportunities, and Staying True to the
Public Interest Commitment.

The UDC-DCSL Chapter is also sending students to the national convention in Birmingham, AL in
late October. Scholarships for people of colour and a limited number of need based scholarships are available.

The University of the District of Columbia - David A. Clarke School of Law chapter can be contacted via email at dcsl@dcnlg.org.
