The Student Committee of the District of Columbia chapter of the National Lawyers Guild formed to bring together law students at the various law schools to organize events for both law students and progessive legal advocates throughout the D.C. area. The committee hosted its first event with an all day Student Disorientation on September 18. 2004. Law students from four local law schools attended to hear panels that presented information regarding staying true to your radical ideas both in law school and after law school. Click here for more information about this event. The Student Committee also hosted a meeting to gather legal support for the January 20 Counter-Inaugural demonstrations with the goal of bringing together different groups to facilitate legal for activists both out on the streets and in courtrooms afterwards.

Members of the Student Committee are active nationally and in their respective NLG law school chapters, as well as in the D.C. chapter. Many have experience ingrassroots organizing and legal observing at demonstrations. Despite the name of the committee, non-students are welcome. The goal of the committee is to increase student participation and to facilitate events around the D.C. that expose the NLG to a larger audience.
